Garden home with loads of style asks $530K

Subtle details make Eastside home a standout

The brightly painted mural on the staircase wall in this detached condo will never let you forget where you live (it reads “Austin”), but its visual punch turns out to be one of the least interesting style choices in this deceptively simple home. HGTV, Dwell, and Tribeza are apparently in agreement—at least on the basic element of its stylishness—as it has been featured on or in all three.

From the home’s entrance, which incorporates shipping containers, hand-painted tiles, and a wide, industrial-style door made of steel and glass, it’s clear that materials were carefully considered and chosen. The two-story, 1,577-square-foot home has three bedrooms and three bathroom and features 11-foot ceilings, white oak flooring, and three outdoor spaces, one an upstairs patio with downtown views.

A wide-open floor plan with glass doors on each end, along with a row of clerestory windows, brings filtered light into the first-floor living area and kitchen. The pattern of glass doors and windows is repeated upstairs and, with the help of the light flooring, create the same effect.

The kitchen has a breakfast bar/center island, stone counters, and a walk-in pantry as well as subtle, colorful touches on the backsplash and lamps. A downstairs bathroom and storage nook feature appealingly patterned tile floors.

Upstairs is a master bedroom with a balcony, two more rooms that can function as bedrooms or studies, and bathrooms with unexpected materials such as a pink, partly marbled shower enclosure and sleek brass fixtures and hardware.

Linear elements and structures tie first- and second-floor exteriors together.
