This morning, the James Beard Foundation announced the 2026 semifinalists for its thirty-sixth annual awards program. It’s considered the Oscars of the U.S. restaurant industry (take that, Michelin!), so it’s a big deal that 51 Texas chefs, hospitality workers, restaurants, and bars appear. The long roster will be whittled down to just a few finalists before the winners are announced in June. Texas has a regional Best Chef category, and thus the state is guaranteed twenty slots on the semifinalist list each year. The additional nods come from national-level categories such as Outstanding Chef and Best New Restaurant.This year, it seems like the James Beard Awards finally get Texas.
