This month, the Texas Book Club will be reading his 2024 novel, We Burn Daylight, which explores the reverberating impact of the Waco siege. The devastating incident, which left 86 people dead, gave rise to a widespread anti-government movement and forced federal agencies to reckon with their tactical responses. “We Burn Daylight is a brilliant reimagining of the 1993 Waco Branch Davidian siege, told as a star-crossed love story between Roy and Jaye, woven together in the spirit of Romeo and Juliet,” says Marianne DeLeón, CEO of the Texas Book Festival.
