Bobby Pulido said from the start of his campaign that he knew how to win over Republican voters in Texas’s Fifteenth Congressional District. Many of them, he said, were friends of his, or friends of friends, or just the kind of people he’d grown up around and understood intimately. “They would tell me, ‘Look, I’m not a Republican Republican. I’m not a MAGA-hat-wearing guy. I know Trump is full of s—.’ But they still voted for him,” Pulido told me in September. There were a lot of those voters.
