Surely the University of Houston would not dominate the nation’s toughest men’s college basketball conference the way it dominated its previous league. Even Cougars coach Kelvin Sampson wasn’t sure what to expect from this debut season in the Big 12 after six straight years of finishing first or second in the American Athletic Conference.
