Qmmunity: Austin Pride Weekend

DATE POSTED:August 20, 2026

Welcome to Austin Pride Weekend, Reader. You’re sort of spoiled for choices from this Thursday onward into next week, no matter if you’re a nightlife lover or delight in daytime dalliances. Maybe you’re thinking this is the year you join the big ol’ official parade! Since no LGBTQ person ever walks alone, check your favorite organization or group’s social media to see if they’ve posted instructions on how to join their parade section. Off the top of my head – aka my Instagram feed – the Little Gay Shop, Austin Front Runners, Project Transitions, Equality Texas, Khush ATX, Stonewall Sports, and, collectively, Texas Roller Derby, Austin Men’s Soccer Association, Austin Rise, Alumni, Vanta Athletics, Street Soccer ATX, and Austin Community Soccer Association are all looking for marchers from the community.

Don’t sweat it if you miss the parade, though, or if you can’t make the festival. The very fact that you exist in Austin as a queer person or ally is reason enough to have Pride. But for those of you who are planning to go big over the next few days, please remember to drink water (if you’re drinking, bring electrolyte powder to ease tomorrow’s hangover), eat at least one healthy meal a day (a single breakfast taco doesn’t count; eat two with guac!), and wear comfortable shoes (or pack a pair in your crossbody for the afterparty). Oh, and read this week’s feature story about local queer comedians on p.16! I hear the guy who wrote it is very handsome…
