Qmmunity: Cool Lizard Alert

DATE POSTED:July 9, 2026

Do y’all like lizards? I’m a little obsessed with the scuttling populace in the area around Chicon and Tillotson by Figure 8 Coffee. There’s three species who occupy the flora who can be identified by a helpful poster outside the coffee shop: the Texas spotted whiptail, Texas spiny lizards, and the green anole. Summer heat’s been warning me off outdoor fun, but I really have powered through the 90-degree-plus temps to see these cutesy crawlies. This is outside the queer-specific purview, but I think there’s enough reptile-enjoying hims, hers, and theirs among the Qmmunity readership for this to be relevant.

Anyway: Here’s other stuff!

Your local alternative Pride, Queerbomb, is looking to raise funds and showcase LGBTQ+ art with a pop-up gallery at the Loading Dock running July 19-23. Want to have your piece included in this fundraiser? Reach out to [email protected] by July 15 with your name, phone number, the art you’d like to submit, and a bio.

Sober recovery org Austin Roundup is gearing up for next year’s Iconic Drag Show, and you could be a part of it. Plan to be at their casting info session on Sunday, July 19, at the DoubleTree Austin to learn all about their team, the show, and how you might join this drag show celebrating 25 years of community.

Have you enjoyed the intense thrills of Coach Lu’s queer MMA lessons at Black Widow? The team behind these fitness sessions are looking for your testimonials to help fundraise a queer grappling tournament in Austin. Fill out the form linked in the @queer_mma Instagram bio with how Queer MMA’s helped you build muscle, mental health, and community by July 13, and you might win a special free private lesson from Lu themself!

If you liked the high drama and glam of Lady Grackle’s drag competition but thought there wasn’t enough short-shorts – great news! The new Grackle Games: GoGo Edition offers a chance for Austin’s talented gogo elite to see who’s the best in this biz. Interested gogo-ers must apply by July 12, with application specifics listed on Lady Grackle’s Insta. Winner gets a cash prize of $1,200 and paid bookings at dance club Luxx.

Stay safe and hydrated, Readers, and keep an eye out for the beautiful little creatures we share this city with. They’re better neighbors than Elon Musk, TBH.
