Extra CreditsI enjoyed TM’s list of best Texas movies [“The Best Picture Shows (Part Two!),” April 2026], but this one should have been on it: The Wheeler Dealers, starring James Garner, Lee Remick, and a slew of great character actors from the early sixties.I was born and reared in Midland and saw the movie at the Hodge Theater there in 1963 or 1964. We tweens thought, when they mentioned Midland, Texas, that we had somehow become the freaking Center of the Universe. Until then, we didn’t think anybody west of Odessa or east of Abilene had even heard of Midland. To have James Garner mention it—and on a car phone, which nobody but presidents and astronauts had—well, that was just amazing.
