Texas Monthly Contributor Elliott Woods Wins Prestigious Polk Award for Migrant Series

Long Island University, which administers the prestigious George Polk Awards, announced on Wednesday that Texas Monthly contributor Elliott Woods has been recognized for his two-part series that explored the 2022 immigration-related disaster that left 53 migrants dead after they were trapped in a sweltering tractor-trailer abandoned in San Antonio. The series, which provided the first full account of the deadliest human-smuggling incident in U.S. history, was copublished by Texas Monthly and the Food & Environment Reporting Network, an independent, nonprofit-news organization.
