DATE POSTED:January 22, 2026
Time to whip out the laptop and apply to these upcoming queerportunities Credit: The Gender Spectrum Collection

Ring, ring: Pick up the phone! There’s a bunch of deadlines approaching for queer-portunities (queer opportunities) happening in the Austin area!

Do YOU have a business, a creative project, or organization/event that’s trans-led or -friendly? Gender Unbound’s Trans Austin Pink Pages are seeking submissions for their upcoming phone-book-style second publication. Fill out the application – which includes free and paid listing options – at genderunbound.org/pinkpages before January ends.

You want to contribute to the one and only Glaze zine? Spring 2026 applications are open through Feb. 4. Artistic folks trained in hair, makeup, modeling, photography, writing, layout design, or various other production fields should make haste to glazemagazine.org/vol-xiv-application, lest they miss out on getting their name among the shiny volume’s contributors.

Got a project that’s in need of a little financial boost? Consider dropping a line to Future Front as they’re now offering fiscal sponsorship applications on a rolling basis. Focused on supporting “community advocacy and cultural activities of independent artists, creatives, community-builders and organizers in Texas,” these sponsorships include accounting, admin, strategy sessions, and myriad other support services. Find more info at futurefronttexas.org/fiscalsponsorship. But what if you just need a little advice? Give ’em a ring at 512/234-3525 (or an email at [email protected]), where FFTX can give ya art, creative biz, and grant writing tips and tricks.

My Own Private Idaho  Tuesday 27 & Wednesday 28, Alamo Village, Lakeline, and Mueller

Gus Van Sant’s sweet, meandering, existential tale of narcoleptic drifter River Phoenix’s unrequited love for trust fund baby Keanu Reeves takes place in lonely landscapes. Alternately a comedy of errors, a social commentary of those living outside the traditional economy, and a dreamlike exploration of the longing for connection, Van Sant’s Shakespearean dialogue is grounded by the sheer visual beauty of Mike and Scott’s long motorcycle rides through American desolation. In a way, it’s sort of a sad, gay, surrealist Western. – Lina Fisher
